"Three Squares for Kids!"

As the school year gets underway, I thought I'd take a moment to mention how Northwest Harvest supports kids outside of school.  Did you know that there are places in our state where up to 98% of elementary students qualify for free or reduced meal plans at their schools? What happens to those kids over weekends and holidays when they can't access those meals?

That's where Three Squares comes in. We partner with schools in high-need communities to provide backpacks full of nutrious, kid-friendly food to those children to take home for themselves and even their siblings.

The typical offerings inside a Three Squares backpack.

Last school year, Three Squares provided backpacks, weekend bags and boxes of food to kids at high risk of hunger at 40 schools in seven school districts in Washington. As the new school year begins, we are continuing to build capacity at 40 schools in the Seattle, Highline, Kent, Clover Park, Yakima,Toppenish and Spokane school districts. We're now serving schools in Hoquiam as well. Interested in learning more? Visit our Three Squares page -- we could use your help!
